{Five Fab} Things I Am Looking Forward to In February

Sooo..I somehow manged to delete this and another post from this date, so this is a complete recreation from memory and mama is getting old, so my memory is not always so great...bwaa...Thankfully I hadn't read them on bloglovin, so I was able to get the entire text for the other one there but for this one, I only got the part before "the jump" but I do have the events in my calendar already & pictures to aid the rewrite process...anyway...use this a reminder to backup your site daily!

Happy February Delights!

I have a love/hate relationship with February. I hate that the Winter weather here in Chicago is usually at it's most brutal in February and how it can really wear me down. But there is also so much to love. Of course it's Black History Month and there is that little holiday, Valentine's Day.

Valentine's Day sometimes gets such a bad rap. But I think it is a wonderful, love filled, colorful break from the darkness of Winter & a reminder that it won't last forever. And this year I am rethinking my Valentine's Day fashion and red, as much as I love it, is nowhere in the picture. Stay tuned.

How sweet is this Valentine's Day setup that Joe surprised me with for a previous Valentine's celebration? It still makes me smile...like HARD cheesin'. It was so thoughtful and so perfectly me.
This year's Black History Month feels more important than ever to me & I will be taking in as many events and activities related to it as possible. Here are a few of the events that I am planning to check out:

Pearl Cleage's Blues For An Alabama Sky at the Court Theatre

Happy Weekend Delights!

I originally was scheduled to be on a little staycation this weekend but I cancelled it because although I really wanted to check out this relatively new hotel, LondonHouse Chicago and chill a bit, it was missing something that I just really need to truly relax, a bathtub. So literally at the last minute, like hours before I would be charged a fee for cancelling, I bailed.

I mean because if I am paying my money, I just have to have the things that I need. It's just that simple. So instead of playing tourist by hiding out at a hotel, I will be immersing myself a little bit in the arts this weekend. I am starting off tonight with Bill T. Jones' presentation of “Return” at the DuSable Museum of African American History. And I will also be checking out Night Runner at The Theater School at DePaul University and possibly one other performance but I have not finalized those plans yet.

Oh and one of my new things this year is to treat myself to something every weekend. Last weekend it was flowers, which I think I might do every weekend but I started a little early and purchased one of my favorite hand creams last night. I hadn't used it in forever but the L'occitane Shea Butter Hand Cream is so rich and moisturizing and perfect for these dry, winter months.
Anyway, I hope you are up to something(s) fun this weekend and now lets get this Five Fab For the Weekend started!

Shop: Although we are still in the midst of Winter, I totally have Spring on the brain. That Via Spiga trench coat I talked about in last week's Five Fab For The Weekend arrived and I love, LOVE it!  I am also currently obsessed with vibrant colors like the yellow of this faux leather peplum jacket and this faux leather moto jacket oh and this high low shirt dress

Happy Friday Delights!

Welcome to the first volume of the Five Fab For the Weekend for 2017! I am working on editing my first interview for the CurvaCast and I am excited to share it with you.

So much going on in the world but this is a happy place today so let's get into the Five Fab!

Shop:  While it may not feel like it but Spring will be here before and Eloquii is having a buy 3 get 50% off sale so I did a little shopping this morning to pick up a few Spring things. I love this cold shoulder wrap dress. It also comes in green and I almost got that color but I own several green dresses but not one coral dress in this tone, so I went with this color.

UPDATE: I ordered this dress and it was just as beautiful in person as on the picture but the straps were so ridiculously long that there was no way to wear it (check out the reviews on the site). I thought about altering it but I decided against it and returned it. And that really sucks because it is a beautiful piece but there was obviously some manufacturing issue with the straps.

{Five Fab} For the Weekend Vol. 11 - The Last Minute Christmas Shopping Edition!

HAPPY FRIDAY DELIGHTS!
I can not believe how fast this month has gone by and Christmas is just 2 days away.  Yesterday I tried to hit the stores but even before I made it off the train I realized that I just didn't want to spend my day dealing with the crowds.  So I took myself to lunch, surprised Joe with some lunch at work and then went home and did my shopping online.

I love utilizing the buy online and pick up in store option.  Especially at this time of the year because nothing takes the fa la la out of the holidays like frantic shoppers & crowded stores.

Trust me.😩

So for this week's Five Fab for the Weekend shop section I have put together a list of a few of my favorite stores that offer buy online and pick up in store options. 🙌

Shop:   Macy's | Target | Gap | Nordstrom | Bed Bath & Beyond | Crate & Barrel | KmartThe Container Store (additional 15% off order online/pick up orders)

Oh and let's not forget Amazon Prime Now. I use this A LOT and placed an order last night that should be delivered to my door any minute now. I love that you get to set the delivery window and for the holiday you can order & they are delivering up until MIDNIGHT Christmas Eve.

If you follow me on snapchat, you know I have been in Macy's quite a bit using their buy online/pick up in store option and that is because the deals are RIDONCULOUS! Like crazy good.

Wear: I picked up these super cute Khombu duck boots from Macy's a couple of weeks ago for a great deal and they are even cheaper now & you will get a WOW Pass to use on your next order when you use buy online/pick.

Happy Friday! I told myself that I was not going to use this space to rant about the weather (you can check out my snapchat for that 😉 and lots of other happenings in my day) but girl....girl...GIRLLLL. I take back the nice things I said about Mother Nature & that beautiful snow when I went to get my tree.

Anyway, I will be cloaked in layers to keep warm and I hope that you will be too. On with this week's Five Fab...

Shop: Free shipping day is TODAY so lots of your fave online shops are offering free shipping, which to me is the best perk of them all. I don't know what it is but I hate paying for shipping and have abandoned many a cart because of it. So kudos to free shipping day!

Here are a few of the deals from some of our favorite online shops that are offering free shipping today (and most thru the weekend).

Ashley Stewart - They are offering up to 50% off certain pieces + free shipping. I am totally loving this silver Metallic Plisse Pleat Halter Dress. It is New Year's Eve perfect, sparkly and twirl worthy but not a dress that you would have to "fight with" all night.
JCPenny - Free shipping + various deals including 40% off some of the plus styles and I love this Lace Mesh Sheath Dress

Target - They have had free shipping for months now but I wanted to include them & this fab Plaid Print Hooded Poncho that I have had my eye on for a while now. It's 40% off!!

Lane Bryant - Those style fix deals from last week's Five Fab for the Weekend are still on + free shipping happening. And I am loving my  If It's Snowing I'm Not Going PJ's .

{Five Fab} For the Weekend Vol. 9

Happy Friday from frigid Chicago! I should have known that Mother Nature was setting us up with that beautiful snow the other day. Winter came thru like a b*tch slap yesterday! Brrr....

Anyway, stay warm if it's cold where you are and if it's not, I hate you...LOL..just kidding. Well, kinda 😃

Shop: I started this morning off snuggling under the blankets and shopping this sale at Lane Bryant. I picked up three tops because I never seem to have enough when I am getting dressed and this super cute pajama set, which pretty much describes how I feel about life right now!!
(check out these pajama sets under $30)

{Five Fab} For the Weekend Vol. 8

I was planning to post a Five Fab For the Weekend last week but it just did not happen with Thanksgiving and travel and all of that. Speaking of travel, I was a little peeved that the cute escape weekender bag I ordered never came because apparently they oversold it and it was no longer in stock but now it's back in stock but boo on them because it would have been perfect for my trip.

Anyway, I can't believe it is already December and I hope that you have fun plans on tap to max it out because we know that it will go fast! Anyway let's get this Five Fab For the Weekend started!

Shop: The FTF x Essie & Kelly Holiday Capsule Collection just dropped TODAY and I am here for it's affordable holiday glam. Nothing in the collection is over $70 & you can use code AFFBOGO50 for 50%  off your second item until 12/4. This pleated faux leather skirt is just one of the pieces from the collection that are MUST HAVES! Check out my other picks here.

{Five Fab} For the Weekend Vol. 7

I can not believe that Thanksgiving is next week! These last few months have been flying by and I know these last weeks of 2016 will do the same, so I am hoping to live life to the fullest and just enjoy as much as I can.

The Chicago Christmas tree lighting is tonight, so I am going to go and check that out (you can follow along on my snapchat).  It's also supposed to feel kinda wintry this weekend, with a little snow to top it off, so I am picking up some new gloves because I think I may have taken mine to storage and I am not even about that going to search for them life right now. I am saving that for when I have to go and get all of my Christmas decor which will be after Thanksgiving.

Anyway, I hope you have a great weekend and here's the Fab Five For the Weekend!

Shop: I am pulling out my booties of course now that Fall is here and these Michael Antonio booties are FIRE! I love all the colors that they come in, especially the grey and burgundy.  And the price at just under $30 is crazy.

Wear:  As mentioned above, mama nature is planning to drop some cold temperatures on us, so I will definitely be pulling out some of my favorite cold weather coats like this beauty. I remember stalking this coat for months & I am still just as much in love with it as I was when I purchased it two years ago.

{Five Fab} For the Weekend Vol. 6

Hey fabs. What a week it has been. As I sit here writing this, I am still somewhat in a state of shock at how the presidential election turned out but I have been trying to do everything that I can to keep myself positive & productive. How about you?
Here's this week's Fab Five..

Shop:  After having seen it numerous times when I opened my Starbucks app & in need of something frivolous to smile about, I snagged this super cute Starbucks Siren Gold Crown Double Wall Traveler.  It has apparently been selling out & getting restocked and I am stoked I was able to snag one because white and gold are my colors!!

Wear: The weather has still been pretty mild here, so I have been pretty laid back fashion wise. But I am getting major stoked for, is all the fun & sparkle of holiday dressing.  I don't do a lot of formal events normally during the season but that does not stop me from wanted to get my sparkle on.

Last year I rocked this gorgeous green sequin Badgley Mischka dress and I am very excited that there are a ton of  fabulous sequin plus size options this year.

{Five Fab} For the Weekend Vol. 5

Happy Friday delights! November has arrived and I am getting more and more excited for the holidays to come. This weekend we "fall back" and get an extra hour of daylight. Which is such a good thing for this very early to rise, morning person, because dark mornings are no bueno.

Yesterday the Big O, revealed her annual Oprah's Favorite Things and there are definitely a few items that on her list that I would LOVE to have.  What about you?
And side note, doesn't Oprah look FABULOUS? Love. Her. Anyway, now on to the Fab Five of this weekend...

Shop:  I am all about that snuggle life during this season, so I am pulling out some of my favorite pajamas and looking to add a few new ones to the mix. I completely love this plaid pajamas set. It's just the quintessential must have for this time of the year.

{Fab Five} For the Weekend | Vol.4

TGIF Fabs! I can not believe how fast October has flown by & you know the rest of the year with the holidays will go by even faster, so I am really trying to enjoy things even more. So this weekend, I am going to go to Randolph Market, which I haven't gone to nearly enough this year and just leisurely browse. Then I am going to finish revamping my shoe cabinet (seen here).
The weather halted my process but it should be on the team this weekend, so I can get this done.

Anyway, on to the Fab Five things...

Shop: One of the best things about Fall is pulling out your boots and I love the look of over the knee boots but we know historically that finding ones that fit your calves and your knees comfortably can be a challenge. Thankfully in the past couple of years, more brands have started selling OTK books that fit wide calves & knees.

And I love these flat over the knee, wide calf boots from Ashley Stewart because for one, they actually go over the knee unlike a lot of the styles that are being billed as over the knee and they are a nice flat style, so you can rock them regularly and they come in three cute colors.

Happy FriYAY!! How was your week? Mine was pretty productive so I got a lot done but I always look forward to the weekend, even if I will still be working on things, there is just something about Saturday and Sunday that just feels different, right?

Any who, let's get this Fab Five for the Weekend party started!

Shop:  It is of course sweater weather and I love turtleneck & mock neck sweaters because they are such a great layering piece. I especially love this poncho style with the colorblocking and this bright pop of yellow.

Wear: And speaking of layering, today it's like 50 degrees in Chicago, so I am pulling out my old Iman convertible tweed coat to rock. It's not too light and not too heavy so perfect for layering.

{Fab Five} For the Weekend | Vol.2

Hey Fabs! Happy Weekend!

I hope you had a great week. The weather has been all over the place in Chicago but that has only made the weekend even sweeter to me.  This morning I grabbed one of my favorite throw blankets (I want this one!), my tablet, some tumeric and ginger tea, put this cucumber mask on and chilled on the balcony.
{Picture from my snapchat where I post a lot of my day to day happenings}
Canopy | Mug: Anthropologie | Similar Tea Kettle

Shop: It's no secret that I LIVE FOR CAPES. Like LIVVEE! I love them so much and have them in so many styles and I am working on a whole separate post about them but I wanted to share this Forever Audrey Cape NOW, before it's sold out.
Plus Size Cape Jacket Forever Audrey
I love both of the colors but the yellow definitely is my top pick. I just love the punch of color and how great it would be with all the fall prints, etc.

Happy weekend Fabs!

This particular weekend has felt like it was a long time coming but now it is here and I am sharing a new feature with ya. Fab Five For the Weekend will feature something to shop, wear, read, watch and drank!  And it's the weekend, so no need for rambling on...so I am just going to get to it.

Shop: You know Eloquii gets lots a love around these parts and rightfully so & they a kick- ass sale (that ends tonight at midnight!!). I have rocked one of my all time favorite purchases from the brand, these faux leather culottes so much (three past looks here) and they are on sale for $39.

Here are a few of my current other MUST HAVES!

Wear: It's in the 60's here and I just so happened to be planning to rock the faux leather culottes today with my red studded flats for a nice pop of color. Love these similar flats & would totally snatch them up if they had them in my size....sigh. Big feet problems.

So much is happening in the plus size world and of course I have to start with the history making Sports Illustrated cover featuring Ashley Graham. This has of course been a long time coming.

Ashley, who posted an ugly cry video on her instagram page from when she found out she would be in the issue, said that she is "Truly speechless!!! This cover is for every woman who felt like she wasn't beautiful enough because of her size. You can do and achieve anything you put your mind to"

{Fab Five} Must Have Books For Your Library #NaBloPoMo

I am a major book lover and this time of year is definitely a perfect time to throw on a cozy sweater and cuddle up on the couch reading. And while I don't get to do this nearly as much as I want to, here are five books that I think are definitely worth being on your must read list.

Five Must Have Books For Your Library

Although I have postponed my Paris trip because we are planning to move in the Spring and hopefully purchasing a home and I am saving towards that, this book, The Paris Journal: Book One is still very high on my reading list.

{life} autumn weekend...

happy saturday...i hope that your weekend has gotten off to a wicked fab start...

my weekend thus far...i dove into nate berkus' the things that matter (so timely for my life right now) and settled in friday night with an epic soak, chill session after i was attacked by a bitch of a stomach bug..

a little moscato (to settle my stomach...wink, wink), lush honey bee bomb (it is my fav), anthropologie candle (it's a lil pricey but my oh my...the scent is to die and it burns so long) and ahhh...

i am finalizing the details for an event i am hosting next month (SAVE THE DATE: Nov 10th!!!)

i am working on my very first blog newsletter (did you join my email list? hmmm?) the winner of the julep giveaway will be announced in it, along with a lot of other newsletter only giveaways, pics, etc.

this is an event free weekend because i am hoping to put a dent in some serious work backlog and the purge continues...

it is amazing how much stuff one can accumulate..

i am being very disciplined and just chucking stuff...originally i was trying to do a lot of sorting and (over)thinking but now, it's toss...toss...toss...we get dumpster divers in our hood regularly, so i hope they can put some of it to good use, make a profit or whatever...it just has to go...

have you signed up for Gwynnie Bee yet? don't forget to take advantage of the sweet offer going on...

oh and i love that Glen from Full Figure Plus is considering Gwynnie Bee as a way to score points with the mrs!

what a great idea...pass on those hints to your partners ladies!

Cheers!

{fun} Tim Gunn @ The Union League of Chicago

As mentioned in my packing post, I made a pit stop to say hello to Tim Gunn & grab a copy of his Fashion Bible on my way to the airport last Friday. He was of course dapper to the nine and as you can see, I even got him a little excited! ;)

{travel} Weekend Trip Packing

I took a trip to NYC this weekend and making this trip several times a year has really shaped how I pack.

For one, getting around NYC can be exhausting at times, with the multitude of trains & buses I sometimes have to take to get where I am going and of course the thousands of people who come along for the ride O_o.

I remember when I moved to NYC almost a decade ago. I had just paroled myself from corporate and convinced Joe that we should just do it and we arrived in the dead of summer and it was a serious rude awakening. We had all of these humongo suitcases and were schlepping them on trains, off trains, up ramps, down ramps, up stairs, down stairs..it was a nightmare.

So, as the years have gone by, I have changed the way that I pack and the last two trips especially have been minimalist to the max.

Here's what I packed this time.
