{Video} Review: My Second RocksBox {Jewelry} Box

In my effort to be a better blogger, I am trying to get things posted to the blog sooner. I go to a lot of events and have a lot of products, etc that I want to share with you ladies but time is a tricky thing in my world sometimes, well most of the time and a lot of times I just never get around to doing it.

But I am working on it.

SOoooo...I just got my latest RocksBox in the mail yesterday and waited to open it so that I could share doing so with you on this video!

Here is a better look at the pieces.

{Sponsored} Review & Giveaway: Pantene Pro-V® Truly Natural Line

I was selected to review the Pantene Pro-V Truly Natural line by the fabs at the Clever Girls Collective.

My hair has not been chemically straightened for almost 3 years now and while 99% of the time, I wear my hair in a protective style (braided under a wig) and recently I decided that I would also either press or flat iron my hair from time to time.

One of the biggest issues with my natural hair is dryness. My hair is a moisture hog, so I was more than eager to check out this line from Pantene, a brand that I had used for years when my hair was chemically relaxed.

The Pantene Pro-V Truly Natural line is generally geared towards women with natural hair that has a tight curl pattern, and hair that is also prone to tangling and dryness, AKA mine, although my hair pattern is not tightly curled all over but like a lot of other naturals, multiple textures.

I received the following Pantene Pro-V® Truly Natural products:

{Beauty} Keeping it Cool and Hydrated: Facial Mists

Hey Fab! As per our disclosure policy, we use affiliate links that may result in compensation if you click links & make purchases. By doing so, you help to keep this blog going & I appreciate & thank you for it.

We just had two awesome 80 degree days and I was in heaven. It was warm and breezy and not crazy hot.

Just perfect!

But as the weather heats up, I have a tendency to become a hot sweaty mess, especially when I moisturize my face and go out into the heat, which really puts a damper on the start of my day...

And believe me when I tell you, it is not a pretty sight and so annoying to walk out the door thinking and feeling that you are all cute and then instantly turn into a dripping rag.

Thankfully in recent years I have found a simple solution that is light and easy to help a sistah out with this issue... hydrating facial mists.

Here are two currently in my beauty arsenal.

{Travel} My Stay @ The Hotel Felix Chicago

As you may know, (uh how could you not? I have only mentioned it 100+ times on twitter) it is my birthday month and one of the things that I had to have although my life would not permit a getaway, getaway, was a little staycation.

The deal of all hotel deals, a $20.13 Earth Day room rate fell into my hands one morning while perusing my twitter timeline. I of course snapped it up and added this little jaunt to the calendar.

Unlike my last little staycation, this stay was relatively uneventful (until the morning...deets below).

The Hotel Felix is a boutique hotel that opened in 2009. It is located at Clark and Huron, near the north end of what I consider central downtown Chicago, in the River North area.

{Beauty} Review: Own Skin Health Lifting Eye Cream

My main issue with my skin, especially on my face is usually dryness.

Although I am deep into my 40's now, I am not that girl looking to try a lot of what I call the "heavy hitters", like retinol and the like because I have been there and done that and my skin was not the happier for it.

So, when a product drops in my beauty basket that promises results without that type of product, I am more than willing to give it a go.

I was sent the Own Skin Health Lifting Eye Cream from my fam at ifabbo and I have been feeding the skin around my eyes with it the past few weeks.

Own is a San Francisco based skin-health company that believes in the holistic approach towards healthy skin, i.e without dousing you with chemicals.

The  Own Skin Health Lifting Eye Cream is retinol, paraben and sulfate free.

What I am liking the most is that the eye cream is not greasy and does not irritate my eyes. I have literally been using the smallest dab and just patting it a bit and keeping it moving.

{Travel} My Stay @ The Ivy Boutique Hotel

One of my resolutions this year is to pamper myself monthly with things like massages, mini getaways, etc.

So for Valentine's Day, I wanted to treat myself to a staycation at a small hotel that was still convenient to anything that I wanted or needed in the city but that was removed enough to feel like being away.

In my quest for this nirvana of accommodations, I chose the Ivy Boutique Hotel.

The reviews I had read beforehand were all pretty positive and the hotel is very new and the pictures of the amenities were definitely appealing and the rate was doable.

Upon arrival I was greeted by Albert and checked in pretty non-eventfully. The only thing that garnered a brow twitch was that in addition the to room charge, if you used a debit card, they would also authorize an additional $250 on my card for up to 10 days.

I thought, ok it's annoying but no big deal. That was until today when I found out that in addition to the $400 that they originally authorized on my card, they had also authorized the actual room charge of $150.16 plus $13.59 for bar charges that I had not actually incurred when I checked out.

{Featured} Sonsi-Re/Dress - Show us Your Style!

It was a sad day when the closing of the NYC boutique Re/Dress was announced awhile back, so it was definitely exciting to hear that Sonsi is keeping Re/Dress alive with a new online boutique.

The plus size retail brand will feature vintage-inspired dresses, sweaters, tops, and their super cute, colorful teggings (part tight, part leggings).

In celebration of the new launch, Sonsi invited several bloggers to pick an item from the current collection to style in our own unique ways.

When I first saw this gorgeous Pink Flamingo Sun Dress, I knew it was the item from the collection that I wanted to rock. It is the most pretty of pinks and the pleats were just made for one of my favorite things to do in a fun, flirty, dress...twirl!!!

It is such a fabulous pink and it feels so good on. Not binding or restrictive.

And since it is officially Fall, I decided at the last minute to show a few of
the many ways that I would wear it in cooler weather.

{review} Prescription Sunglasses From Firmo

I have worn glasses for as long as I can remember but amazingly I have never had prescription sunglasses.

This is due to the fact that I am not so visually impaired that I can't see without my glasses, so I can rock non prescription sunnies with no problem.

But when Firmoo.com contacted me to choose a pair of glasses to review, I saw these sunglasses and knew that they were the right ones for me.

Curvatude in the Stores: Ashley Stewart

not sure why, but Ashley Stewart is my favorite store to go to and try on a bunch of stuff...

i guess it's because they have really nice big fitting rooms and always a bunch of new stuff for me to choose from.

this time around, i was on a tight schedule, so i only tried on a few pieces.

it was a fuzzy iphone pic day and i tried hard not to moon ya'll cuz i was wearing a dress but took it off because it clashed with the colors of the ponchos...

anyway, fall and ponchos are the perfect pair for me. i love throwing one on and the way they drape around you....it's just so comforting.

i love this color and i would probably wear this one styled like they had it in the store, belted over a long sleeved shirt.

this one is longer and more of what i would wear as an outer garment.

and striped ponchos are all over the place because i saw two similar styles
{from JNY and INC (it's hooded)} the same day

this dress caught my eye in the khaki color (which they are calling most toast) but they didn't have the size that i needed, so i tried on the pink (which they are calling watermelon)

and while the pictures on their website give off a kinda lite brite and somewhat too shiny feel, in person the dress has a very nice sateen look

it is very figure flattering and a pullover style with nice faux buttons
(i was lazy and didn't do the belt all the way)

i also love that although it looks like faux wrap dress,
the dress is fully sewn all around, so you are not in danger of
having any wardrobe malfunctions

this is the color i initially loved oh and they have it in navy as well.
i could seriously buy all three colors because i love them all
but for fall i am leaning towards the toast and navy.

speaking of navy, i love this shirt
(i am going back to get it today as a matter of fact)

it is very fitted so i went up a size for my girls,
but it's not tight because it has built in elastic insets

and one thing that i have found almost every time that i have
gone into Ashley Stewart for one of these reviews,
is that they are really good at the fine details like this.
it was perfectly applied

Curvatude in the Stores: Ashley Stewart

it's been quite some time since i have posted one of these blogs, so today after i spent a little time at the beach and running some errands, i stopped in to check out what was new at Ashley Stewart.

please excuse my bra straps!!! i didn't plan this excursion, so i wasn't wearing a convertible...

i love this one, the prism maxi (which happens to be currently splashed all over the front of their website)

i tried it on a 18W and it fit perfectly.

it's super soft and can totally be rocked dressed up or down...

i choose to try on this second dress because i loved the print...they don't have it on their website, (which blows)

i tried this one on in a 18W and in could have gone down to a 16 in the body but needed the 18 for my girls to be adequately housed..

this white dress is just summer perfect...and it's not on the website either, which i just don't get but...le sigh...

i tried it on in an 18W. it has adjustable straps and it is well lined and a twirler..i.e, a fun dress to twirl around in...

i would purchase all three of these dresses and actually may go back and get a couple of them...

in addition to these, there were a bunch of other options in store and i was pleasantly surprised, ashley stewart is definitely more on point than not lately...

as i write this, they have a buy one, get one sale going on online, which is somewhat different than the sales that they had in store, which is the one thing that really has always bothered me about them, consistency in inventory and prices...as noted in previous reviews here and here.

For The Love of Shoes...

So, I finally gave Shoedazzle a try.

A few months back I went thru the motions of completing the Shoedazzle style profile, which they use to get a feel for your style and I got to the part about shoe size and was totally bumbed out to find that they only went up to a size 10.

Well of course I tweeted about it like I do all of my grievances (smile) and they sent me a tweet saying that come Sept they would be offering size 11.

Although it has taken me til now, November to actually check it out for myself, I must say that I am pleasantly surprised.

For one, they presented a nice variety of shoes in my initial "Showroom" which is the gallery of shoes that they select for you based on your profile.

There were boots, flats, dressy heels, casual heels and of course booties.

While I liked the first group, I requested alternates so that I could get an even better feel for what they had in my size.

I ended up getting this open toe bootie, which was one of the selections in my original Showroom.

I really like them. I hate when you buy open toe shoes and your toe slides over the front of the shoe. Thankfully this is not an issue with this bootie.

The faux suede is really soft and the shoe is comfortable on, even for me a very rare skinny heel wearer, (the platform helps a lot). I also like that they send you a bag to store your shoes in.

They also have a section called Dazzleavenue where they offer accessories, jewelry and handbags. I actually purchased a purse with an introduction 50% code they gave me when I signed up before I purchased the booties. (I will review it later).

I also like that they send you reminders that your selection date is approaching so that if you want to skip a month you can.

My only "problem" with Shoedazzle is that I went back into my showroom today and found a couple of shoes that I love that were not there last week!

I know a real problem, more shoes to buy! But I love these! And at just $39.95 with free shipping, I am seriously considering them.

Thinking of getting your Shoedazzle on? Use my invite link and get 20% off your first order plus they will probably offer you some other deal like the 50% off deal on a Dazzleavenue item that I got as a welcome gift.

Review: City Chic Glitter Flower Mesh Contrast Dress

When the fabulous folks at City Chic contacted me and invited me to try out their goods, I was geeked.

I have always loved browsing their website but had never gotten around to actually purchasing anything, so this was an offer I gladly accepted.

Choosing something was a little challenging because they had so many cute things that I wanted but in the end, I decided on the Glitter Flower Mesh Contrast Dress.

I chose it mainly because I didn't have anything like it and also because I loved the idea of having a dress with a little glitter weaved into it.

{Who doesn't love a little glitter??!!}

Also, I hate not feeling comfortable and dresses that are too short are usually a no go for me and based on the picture, this dress looked like it would not be too short or too long.

Fast forward...

The dress was shipped July 23rd and I got it July 26th. Kudos to City Chic for the crazy fast shipping!

I opened the package up and I think my tweet says it all!

The dress falls just perfectly and I love it!

The glitter is subtle and adds just the right amount of Curvatude that I was hoping it would.

And the dress is very body flattering because I am not wearing any shapewear!
Although I probably will wear a corset when I wear it out.

But as you can see, the banded waist defines and the slightly ballooned bodice keeps all my jiggly parts under wrap!

I am very anal about checking stitching and hems, etc. and the dress is very well made.

Needless to say, my introduction to City Chic is definitely the start of a new fashion love affair.

Thanks City Chic!

....oh and yes those are the Christian Siriano Parisienne Exotic Platform Pumps that I am wearing...
