{Five Fab} For the Weekend Vol. 13

Happy Weekend Delights!

I originally was scheduled to be on a little staycation this weekend but I cancelled it because although I really wanted to check out this relatively new hotel, LondonHouse Chicago and chill a bit, it was missing something that I just really need to truly relax, a bathtub. So literally at the last minute, like hours before I would be charged a fee for cancelling, I bailed.

I mean because if I am paying my money, I just have to have the things that I need. It's just that simple. So instead of playing tourist by hiding out at a hotel, I will be immersing myself a little bit in the arts this weekend. I am starting off tonight with Bill T. Jones' presentation of “Return” at the DuSable Museum of African American History. And I will also be checking out Night Runner at The Theater School at DePaul University and possibly one other performance but I have not finalized those plans yet.

Oh and one of my new things this year is to treat myself to something every weekend. Last weekend it was flowers, which I think I might do every weekend but I started a little early and purchased one of my favorite hand creams last night. I hadn't used it in forever but the L'occitane Shea Butter Hand Cream is so rich and moisturizing and perfect for these dry, winter months.
Anyway, I hope you are up to something(s) fun this weekend and now lets get this Five Fab For the Weekend started!

Shop: Although we are still in the midst of Winter, I totally have Spring on the brain. That Via Spiga trench coat I talked about in last week's Five Fab For The Weekend arrived and I love, LOVE it!  I am also currently obsessed with vibrant colors like the yellow of this faux leather peplum jacket and this faux leather moto jacket oh and this high low shirt dress

{Five Fab} For the Weekend Vol. 11 - The Last Minute Christmas Shopping Edition!

HAPPY FRIDAY DELIGHTS!
I can not believe how fast this month has gone by and Christmas is just 2 days away.  Yesterday I tried to hit the stores but even before I made it off the train I realized that I just didn't want to spend my day dealing with the crowds.  So I took myself to lunch, surprised Joe with some lunch at work and then went home and did my shopping online.

I love utilizing the buy online and pick up in store option.  Especially at this time of the year because nothing takes the fa la la out of the holidays like frantic shoppers & crowded stores.

Trust me.😩

So for this week's Five Fab for the Weekend shop section I have put together a list of a few of my favorite stores that offer buy online and pick up in store options. 🙌

Shop:   Macy's | Target | Gap | Nordstrom | Bed Bath & Beyond | Crate & Barrel | KmartThe Container Store (additional 15% off order online/pick up orders)

Oh and let's not forget Amazon Prime Now. I use this A LOT and placed an order last night that should be delivered to my door any minute now. I love that you get to set the delivery window and for the holiday you can order & they are delivering up until MIDNIGHT Christmas Eve.

If you follow me on snapchat, you know I have been in Macy's quite a bit using their buy online/pick up in store option and that is because the deals are RIDONCULOUS! Like crazy good.

Wear: I picked up these super cute Khombu duck boots from Macy's a couple of weeks ago for a great deal and they are even cheaper now & you will get a WOW Pass to use on your next order when you use buy online/pick.

{Five Fab} For the Weekend Vol. 10

Happy Friday! I told myself that I was not going to use this space to rant about the weather (you can check out my snapchat for that 😉 and lots of other happenings in my day) but girl....girl...GIRLLLL. I take back the nice things I said about Mother Nature & that beautiful snow when I went to get my tree.

Anyway, I will be cloaked in layers to keep warm and I hope that you will be too. On with this week's Five Fab...

Shop: Free shipping day is TODAY so lots of your fave online shops are offering free shipping, which to me is the best perk of them all. I don't know what it is but I hate paying for shipping and have abandoned many a cart because of it. So kudos to free shipping day!

Here are a few of the deals from some of our favorite online shops that are offering free shipping today (and most thru the weekend).

Ashley Stewart - They are offering up to 50% off certain pieces + free shipping. I am totally loving this silver Metallic Plisse Pleat Halter Dress. It is New Year's Eve perfect, sparkly and twirl worthy but not a dress that you would have to "fight with" all night.
JCPenny - Free shipping + various deals including 40% off some of the plus styles and I love this Lace Mesh Sheath Dress

Target - They have had free shipping for months now but I wanted to include them & this fab Plaid Print Hooded Poncho that I have had my eye on for a while now. It's 40% off!!

Lane Bryant - Those style fix deals from last week's Five Fab for the Weekend are still on + free shipping happening. And I am loving my  If It's Snowing I'm Not Going PJ's .

Happy Friday from frigid Chicago! I should have known that Mother Nature was setting us up with that beautiful snow the other day. Winter came thru like a b*tch slap yesterday! Brrr....

Anyway, stay warm if it's cold where you are and if it's not, I hate you...LOL..just kidding. Well, kinda 😃

Shop: I started this morning off snuggling under the blankets and shopping this sale at Lane Bryant. I picked up three tops because I never seem to have enough when I am getting dressed and this super cute pajama set, which pretty much describes how I feel about life right now!!
 (check out these pajama sets under $30)

{Five Fab} For the Weekend Vol. 8

I was planning to post a Five Fab For the Weekend last week but it just did not happen with Thanksgiving and travel and all of that. Speaking of travel, I was a little peeved that the cute escape weekender bag I ordered never came because apparently they oversold it and it was no longer in stock but now it's back in stock but boo on them because it would have been perfect for my trip.

Anyway, I can't believe it is already December and I hope that you have fun plans on tap to max it out because we know that it will go fast! Anyway let's get this Five Fab For the Weekend started!

Shop: The FTF x Essie & Kelly Holiday Capsule Collection just dropped TODAY and I am here for it's affordable holiday glam. Nothing in the collection is over $70 & you can use code AFFBOGO50 for 50%  off your second item until 12/4. This pleated faux leather skirt is just one of the pieces from the collection that are MUST HAVES! Check out my other picks here.

{Five Fab} For the Weekend Vol. 7

I can not believe that Thanksgiving is next week! These last few months have been flying by and I know these last weeks of 2016 will do the same, so I am hoping to live life to the fullest and just enjoy as much as I can.

The Chicago Christmas tree lighting is tonight, so I am going to go and check that out (you can follow along on my snapchat).  It's also supposed to feel kinda wintry this weekend, with a little snow to top it off, so I am picking up some new gloves because I think I may have taken mine to storage and I am not even about that going to search for them life right now. I am saving that for when I have to go and get all of my Christmas decor which will be after Thanksgiving.

Anyway, I hope you have a great weekend and here's the Fab Five For the Weekend!

Shop: I am pulling out my booties of course now that Fall is here and these Michael Antonio booties are FIRE! I love all the colors that they come in, especially the grey and burgundy.  And the price at just under $30 is crazy.

Wear:  As mentioned above, mama nature is planning to drop some cold temperatures on us, so I will definitely be pulling out some of my favorite cold weather coats like this beauty. I remember stalking this coat for months & I am still just as much in love with it as I was when I purchased it two years ago.

{Five Fab} For the Weekend Vol. 5

Happy Friday delights! November has arrived and I am getting more and more excited for the holidays to come. This weekend we "fall back" and get an extra hour of daylight. Which is such a good thing for this very early to rise, morning person, because dark mornings are no bueno.

Yesterday the Big O, revealed her annual Oprah's Favorite Things and there are definitely a few items that on her list that I would LOVE to have.  What about you?
And side note, doesn't Oprah look FABULOUS? Love. Her. Anyway, now on to the Fab Five of this weekend...

Shop:  I am all about that snuggle life during this season, so I am pulling out some of my favorite pajamas and looking to add a few new ones to the mix. I completely love this plaid pajamas set. It's just the quintessential must have for this time of the year.

{Fab Five} For the Weekend | Vol.3

Happy FriYAY!! How was your week? Mine was pretty productive so I got a lot done but I always look forward to the weekend, even if I will still be working on things, there is just something about Saturday and Sunday that just feels different, right?

Any who, let's get this Fab Five for the Weekend party started!

Shop:  It is of course sweater weather and I love turtleneck & mock neck sweaters because they are such a great layering piece. I especially love this poncho style with the colorblocking and this bright pop of yellow.

Wear: And speaking of layering, today it's like 50 degrees in Chicago, so I am pulling out my old Iman convertible tweed coat to rock. It's not too light and not too heavy so perfect for layering.

{Fab Five} For the Weekend | Vol.2

Hey Fabs! Happy Weekend!

I hope you had a great week. The weather has been all over the place in Chicago but that has only made the weekend even sweeter to me.  This morning I grabbed one of my favorite throw blankets (I want this one!), my tablet, some tumeric and ginger tea, put this cucumber mask on and chilled on the balcony.
{Picture from my snapchat where I post a lot of my day to day happenings}
Canopy | Mug: Anthropologie | Similar Tea Kettle

Shop: It's no secret that I LIVE FOR CAPES. Like LIVVEE! I love them so much and have them in so many styles and I am working on a whole separate post about them but I wanted to share this Forever Audrey Cape NOW, before it's sold out.
Plus Size Cape Jacket Forever Audrey
I love both of the colors but the yellow definitely is my top pick. I just love the punch of color and how great it would be with all the fall prints, etc.

Happy weekend Fabs!

This particular weekend has felt like it was a long time coming but now it is here and I am sharing a new feature with ya. Fab Five For the Weekend will feature something to shop, wear, read, watch and drank!  And it's the weekend, so no need for rambling on...so I am just going to get to it.

Shop: You know Eloquii gets lots a love around these parts and rightfully so & they a kick- ass sale (that ends tonight at midnight!!). I have rocked one of my all time favorite purchases from the brand, these faux leather culottes so much (three past looks here) and they are on sale for $39.

Here are a few of my current other MUST HAVES!

Wear: It's in the 60's here and I just so happened to be planning to rock the faux leather culottes today with my red studded flats for a nice pop of color. Love these similar flats & would totally snatch them up if they had them in my size....sigh. Big feet problems.

{Five Fab} Movies That Will Move You To Netlix NOW!

What did we do before Netflix? I mean seriously. Netflix like Google has become a verb and one that a lot of us could not do without. I mean have you ever witnessed the fallout of a Netflix outage on Twitter? It's not pretty.

So, while I am not a bonafide member of Netflix or die, I do love all the options that are at my fingertips at any given moment, whether on my laptop, phone or tv {via my Apple TV}.

And while my queue is normally mostly filled with foreign flicks and randomness, I recently added & watched a few that you need to Netflix NOW!

Of Mind and Music - An incredible movie that celebrates music, New Orleans and human connection. It literally broke my heart and then restored it.

{Five Fab} Romantic Valentine’s Day Movies

Valentine’s Day is all about flowers, love, hearts, chocolate and romance. And romance comes in many shapes and forms and thanks to movies, it also comes with lots of laughs and fun and of course, even a few tears.  I am sure that you have see a quite a few lists featuring romantic movies for Valentine’s Day but most contain a lot of the usual suspects, so I wanted to share a few of my faves that, with the exception of one, may not be that well known.

My Favorite Five - This movie is hilarious as you will see from the trailer and since the lead character has 5 very defined requirements that no one man encompasses, she dates multiple men and of course life throws a monkey wrench or two at her that ruins all her fun. Available to rent or buy or stream on Netflix.

{Fashion} Star Wars Fan Girl Style

Hey Fabs!

Even if you are not actually a die hard Star Wars fan, you have to admit that the long awaited return of the epic saga is kinda exciting, right?

And of course it's always fun to show off your fan girl status and there is no shortage of ways to do so. There is something for everyone in your tribe, from your pets to your wee ones and of course your curves.

Here are six tops that I would totally rock. They range from classic to cheeky to sexy.

Star Wars Fan Plus Size T shirts
1 | 2 | 3| 4 | 5| 6

I love the kitsch of the Darth Vader Ugly Christmas Sweater, which totally reminds me that I need to start planning how I am going to beat my "Merry Thickmas" sweater from last year.

And how fab is this cold shoulder embellished top? It definitely gives Star Wars a new meaning (hahaa). It comes in 3 colors but this one is my fave. And "The Dark Side Made Me Do It" is already one of my regular excuses ;) so this shirt is a no brainer.

May the (fashion) force be with you!

{Five Fab} Things To Rock The Weekend!

HAPPY WEEKEND Lovelies!

Last weekend I was still taking it easy and resting up my poor back after my trip to the ER and mama nature was still hating on us with crazy temps, so if I was going to leave the flat it would have been out of desperation for a peppermint mocha but other than that, I was on total hibernation status.

And while laying on the couch semi-conscious, flicking through the never ending Comcast on demand menus, I thought wouldn't it be nice to have some lists with some good recommendations for these kind of moments and that is where this post was born.

I am not sure if it will be a weekly thang but I wanted to share with you some things that I have enjoyed or still am enjoying  or want to try that I think would totally rock your weekend.

 Watch

I finally watched "The Theory of Everything" and it had such a profound effect on me. Have you seen it? I don't want to drop to many spoilers but I was just struck the entire time by the story. And the MUSIC, Soundtrack by Johann Johannsson just fills me, especially the song Rowing, it's so beautiful.

{Life} 3 Ways To Break The Blues #NaBloPoMo

Hello lovelies...

It's the first day of the December #NaBloPoMo and as mentioned here, in addition to regularly scheduled posts, I will be responding to the prompts that Blogher posted for the month.

Today's prompt:

What do you do when you're down to bring yourself a little joy?

My down days are more like down caves. I can get really deep in them & because I am a loner by nature, I tend to want to be left alone but thankfully down days are rare as of late for me. When they do hit me, there are a few simple pleasures that add a little joy & sparkle back to my world.

{fun} Favorite Holiday Movies

One of the best things about this time of year is the holiday movies,
from the classics to the corniest.

I have been living and breathing the hallmark channel & lifetime movies
and playing some of my DVD's over and over...

They just really put me in the holiday spirit!

Here are a few of many of my favorite holiday movies.

The Perfect Holiday.
A great cast, music and more.

Checking in..

Just wanted to take a moment and write a little about what I have been up to.

Yesterday I finally went to see Inception. I just love Leonardo DiCaprio. Every since Titanic he has just been high on my actors I love list.

But Dex did mention something that rang true. While they were about totally different stories, Inception and Shutter Island were a lot alike.

They both had a lot to do with "altered states" as it were and in both there were times when he or rather his characters exhibited behavior that was a little "off".

So, while I enjoyed both movies, I am ready to see him in a romantic role again. I mean I have seen Titanic at least 100 times mainly because of the love story it portrays more than anything else because actually the thought of lost ships kinda freaks me out.

Anytime I see them on tv or whatever they just make me feel uneasy. I think its because I always think and wonder about the people who died on them.

Like if you die on a boat that sinks, does your soul just forever float?

Are spirits floating around in the waters?

Crazy? Yes.

Oh well.

Anyway, I also finally saw The Karate Kid and Iron Man 2 over the weekend.

I thought Jaden Smith did a wonderful job and he's such a little cutie pie.

And "my husband" Robert Downey Jr was fab in Iron Man 2 of course.

And tomorrow I am actually going to see another movie for a project that I participate in now and then.

But all this movie going aside, what I really wanted to share with you is a new feature that I am bringing to the blog, called "Living Curvatude"

Essentially it will be a series of photos from my day that I will post on the blog.

I figure as much as I love taking pictures, its a no brainer so keep your eye out for it, starting tomorrow.

Oh and I am taking a Sushi 101 class on Saturday...that should be fun. I love sushi and have always wanted to make it at home. The class is 90 minutes long, so I am hoping to really learn a lot!

Lastly in more important news, Raijean of Swa Rai has started a really great project called the Bleeding Heart Project.

The goal of the Project is 'Educating the world about Heart Disease, one heart at a time..'

This is a cause near and dear to my heart, so I definitely want to support it and hope that you will also.

Check it out and "like" it on facebook!

On Our List..

Next week we celebrate the life of Dr. Martin Luther King Jr.

And we highly recommend that you take a moment to visit his family's official website.

We were struck by the excerpt from his sermon "The Drum Major Instinct" that started playing when you land on the home page.

In part he says...

"Everybody can be great, because everybody can serve. You don't have to have a college degree to serve. You don't have to have to make your subject and your verb agree to serve. You don't have to know about Plato and Aristotle to serve. You don't have to know Einstein's "Theory of Relativity" to serve. You don't have to know the Second Theory of Thermal Dynamics in Physics to serve. You only need a heart full of grace, a soul generated by love, and you can be that servant."

Powerful and a reminder that no matter what your own current circumstances may be you still have value and worth that can be put to use to help someone else.

Check out their "How to Be Great" resources.

And speaking of greatness, the Ingauration of President Barack Obama, the 44th President of the United States of America takes place this coming Tuesday, Jan 20th.

While sadly (and we do mean sadly considering we had a chance to snag a room but couldn't convince our partner to go) we won't be in D.C. to join the festivities, there are plenty of ways to take part in this celebration.

There are events being held in every city across the land and on the internet.

A lot of individuals are even hosting Neighborhood Ball Parties: Check here to see what's happening in your town.

There is even a special music event coming on tv: tune into ABC at 8:00 ET/PT to watch the main event and hear musical performances by Beyonce, Mary J. Blige, Mariah Carey, Faith Hill, Jay-Z, Alicia Keys, Shakira, Stevie Wonder and Nick Cannon (as DJ).

~~~~
On our list also, although we haven't decided if we will make it this weekend or not, we definitely have to add seeing Notorious, the tale of the life and times of the Notorious B.I.G.
Extras: Check out the soundtrack. All Classic Biggy with a hit of Jay Z and Jadakiss.
Yesterday it hit me that we are already 15 days into the new year!
We have been really enjoying ourselves and are somewhat struck by some of the comments we have overheard from people just going about our daily lives.
From the negative comments about new years resolutions to the economy and the helplessness that some people are feeling...
To all of that we say, uh folks we really need to get our Curvatude in check!
Look around you!!
There really is, in spite of the sadness, ugliness or just plain flat out silliness..
Some really good 'ish going on in the world.
>>>Yesterday a plane landed in the Hudson River and everyone lived<<<<
>>>>Remember that you woke up today.<<<<
And if that doesn't do it for you and well if it doesn't we will keep our prayers out there for ya but in the meantime, check out this Zen Habits post titled "The Single Secret to Making 2009 Your Best Year Ever" (we LOVE Zen Habits!!)
