SATC2 Thrills

I attended a midnight screening of Sex and the City 2 and this dress worn by Miranda during a major event early on in the movie just blew me away!

I never tweet during films but I was so taken by this dress that I had to turn my phone back on and exclaim...

Her character really came to life in this film and it showed in the clothes that she wore.

Rich, vibrant colors and textures. Sexy, flowy and feminine..

Critics be damned this was a fun time.

I attended with a 20 something and I am a proud member of the 40+ club and we both left smiling and laughing and talking about it.

Sex and the City delivered the fun, glam and ridiculousness that we have all come to know and love.

I wont give any spoilers but I loved the scene where she kept saying "sip".

Give it up!

For my girl Janet Jackson who brought it last night on American Idol!

She was fierce and representing for us 40+ ladies!

The hair, the makeup, that body!

GIRL!

She started off sweet and subtle..wearing a body hugging Cruella Deville style number singing a bit of my jam Again and her song..Nothing..

And then got nasty...performing Nasty Boys in a mesh insert body suit!

A Few Sweet Green Things & Noshing Chicago Brunch Bunch Style

There are a lot of pictures in this post because I had a wicked full Sunday..

For one, I attended the Green Festival here in Chicago and while I am sure most people think that its all plants and blah, you would have been pleasantly surprised.

There was a huge variety of companies present. There were some of the usual suspects, like Clif Bar but there were also a bunch of really cool fashion, jewelry and beauty vendors there.

During my short walk thru, I purchased this cool necklace from Uga Beads. It is made from recycled paper by women and people with HIV in Uganda.

Besides the fact that I love the way that it looks, especially the little pendent with the face on one side and "EMPOWER ME" on the other side, I love what they stand for.

It's a really long strand of beads but I doubled it in the pictures. I would rock it this way or just hanging long, it would depend on what type of neckline I'm wearing.

I really enjoyed this Festival and here is a very small sampling of some of the people and other products I came across..

I love this woman's spunk. Her name is Dawn Joi and she is funny and in your face.

I feel so out of touch with the fact that she is a local talent and I have NEVER heard of her but she has quite the resume..

The t-shirts I took a picture of are from her JoiTees line...they come in sizes up to 3X and they are made to make you laugh and to empower you..{that was a huge theme in many different ways at the Green Festival}

The "my coochie..." tee was given life because she said that she was celibate and was dating a guy who I guess was trying to pressure her into doing the nasty...LOL!

Anyway, there are plenty more tees with a variety of sayings on her website...

i love the "meat makes u musty" one!

LOL

These next two pictures are of some of the goods from Synergy Organic...
I love the easy vibe and wide range of colors and cuts...

Next up the very stylish and so NOT fanny pack in the old your dad used to wear theme vibe, Pax4u.

I love them...there are so many times when I am out and I wish I had a bag I could use to free up my hand by just throwing it across my body or my hips even and just do my thang...

At first glance I did not realize what this coat was made of but upon further inspection I realized that it contains old gloves and food wrappers, etc.

Crazy right?!
In a way it's kinda cool but in another way...its kinda gross, especially that dingy looking glove..lol..
Unfortunately I forget to note who the company's name.

These lovely jewelry pieces were from a company called Baraka...
very earthy and vibrant and rich in style and variety..

Can you believe that these bags are made from inner tubes?

They are so fab!

They can be found along with a host of uber cool products at Global Exchange

They totally look like leather!

Also local favorite beeline was there.
You may have seen their products in Wholefoods.

They make their goodies from beehives housed on the westside of Chicago in the North Lawndale community.

WESTSIDE!

But I am so aggravated that I had already spent my "self imposed daily allowance" so I didn't pick up any of their products but you MUST check them out if you haven't already.

I started this incredibly beautiful day off noshing with the "Brunch Bunch".

We went to Francesca's Forno and as usual it was really great to just hang with this group of fierce, living it like it's golden women!

There were 18 of us this time and of course there was fun, laughter and good eats!

And you know I had to have a nice drank during the festivities...

Mimosa's FTW!

And did I mention that it was beautiful out...yes...well I need to say it again..

This was really a perfect day..I only wish that I had more of it so that I could have gone to the beach...

soon...soon.

Navy Pier

It was gloriously sunny out and I already have tan lines on my face from my sunglasses!

Oh and I almost forgot the delicious Divine Chocolate that I got..

it truly was divine..

Finally..

after a pain in the arse time of pulling in all the tweets, etc i finally have a winner of the AJWright giveaway!

In the future I will have to remember to collect the tweets on a daily basis because twitter apparently is keeping less and less in it's search database..

anyway, the winner of the $50 AJWright gift card is: Cid!

Hit me up via email with your mailing information girlie!

And as for the other winners of the giveaways, I will have everything mailed out by Tuesday!

Janet's New Do!

I was just on people.com and came across this picture of Janet Jackson's new hair cut and I LOVE IT!

I tweeted yesterday about how i was going to color my hair AGAIN but I was keeping something on the low..

And that is that I am cutting my hair off also...

Not that it's really all that long in the first place..

But I had been thinking about it for weeks and my ex had been saying that I should just do it and well now after seeing Janet and loving this look on her so much, I definitely am...

Stay tuned...the Curvatude Hair Chronicles continues...

Marshalls "Behind the Seams" In Store Event

On Friday I attended a Marshalls "Behind the Seams" event here in Chicago.

The event featured a meet/greet breakfast followed by Stylist Alison Deyette giving us the skinny on “off-price” retail some pretty cool information on the T.J. Maxx and Marshalls brands.

It was very interesting to learn that:

"95% of what they sell at TJ Maxx & - Marshalls is same season" - and I can definitely attest to this. I have never felt as if they were carrying last seasons goods. It's always the current trends and styles.

"TJ Maxx & Marshalls do NOT sell second run labels like outlet malls. They sell first runs that are the same as at the dept stores" - all the brands we know, love and dream of owning can be had at both.

"Designers love selling to "off-price" stores like TJ Maxx and Marshalls because they have to buy back whatever department stores don't sell and can move product via these alternative stores"

"TJ Maxx and Marshalls sometimes end up selling "exclusives" of certain designer goods" - this is how that goes. Say the designer made a dress in four colors but the department stores only wanted two of them, TJ Maxx and Marshalls have the buying power to buy that dress in the other two colors and sell them to the public, exclusively and at a much cheaper price.

"TJ Maxx and Marshalls are always conservative with their "compare at" prices" - so although the tag might say compare at $125 the actual price in a department store could have really been $175.

We received a $100 gift card to take advantage of some of their great Spring offerings and I got some really cute pieces that I will blog about at a later date.

Of course I took a bunch of pics of the attendees and of the goods in store and

{this never happens to me!!!}

somehow deleted them off of my camera..

which so blows..

big time...

My only pics are the ones that I sent to my facebook page during the event.

Oh and I do have some video footage that I will post to my facebook page.

But it was really cool to learn a bit of "Behind the Seams" info about two of my favorite places to shop.

RIP Ms. Lena Horne

I'm not alone, I'm free. I no longer have to be a credit, I don't have to be a symbol to anybody; I don't have to be a first to anybody.

Crochet Lovin'

The only pieces crocheted pieces that i own are the usual suspects; hats, gloves, sweaters and scarves but this season i have had my eye on something totally different.

DRESSES!

For instance, this Old Navy halter dress with the wooden O-ring accents is so calling my name..

here it is in the light color they are calling "cream of wheat"

here it is in the brown color they are calling "coffee grounds"

i love it in both colors but i have so many brown dresses that I think i am going to go for it in the "cream of wheat".

here is one of the ways that i would rock it...

i also love these scarves with the crochet trim. it comes in 5 colors but these three are my favorites...

beautiful colors. light and springy!

oh and I have been saying it for months, but i will definitely soon start posting "Rockin Curvatude" outfit posts.

it basically hasn't happened because i usually don't get dressed until the very last minute and there isn't any time to photograph myself and asking the people in my house to take pics of me usually turns into such an aggravating experience that i rarely bother..

they think all this blogging and picture taking stuff is just a chore..

but to heck with them..i love every moment of it..

anyway, i am going to pull my tripod that i purchased months ago out and push myself to work on getting pictures taken because as i have been shedding the winter layers, i have been mixing pieces and styles more and i sometimes have to make "creative adjustments" to outfits and pieces that i think would be helpful for other plus size chicas...

so, OOTD's are soon to come..

Evans up to 30% Off Sale + Picks

Evans is having a up to 30% off sale going on and here are some of the items volleying for space in my shopping cart!

This was my first pick but it is so sold out in my size but if you can fit it, I say...
GET IT!

And I can never have too many belts and at about $10.85 USD, this is a steal.

Here are a couple of pieces that aren't a part of the current sale but that I also want.

As noted. I can never have enough waist defining belts and I don't have one in this color..

I have been contemplating getting these pants for months. I love the ruched hem.

TOPSHOP Debuts Make Up Line

Topshop, the fashion retailer launched it's first ever makeup collections today.

They are offering two collections, a Core Collection and a seasonal Trend Collection.

 {TOPSHOP Core Make Up Collection.
The nail polishes unfortunately do not ship to the US.}

{TOPSHOP Seasonal Make Up Collection}

I am loving the rich colors..

{Amazon Shadow in Sunstar - SS10}

You can check out some of their video tutorials of looks they created with the products here.

I can't wait to get to NYC to try them in person.

Speaking of the NYC location, they are having in store makeovers, etc thru Mother's Day.
